Our Learning Journey

Our first learning journey in year 1 will be “How can I be part of the community?”. Throughout the term, the children will learn about different diversity in our Hoo village today as well as learning about the local jobs. The children will be sharing pictures of themselves from when they were babies to talk about how they have changed over time. The children will also find out about the history of the village and how it has changed and grown over the years.

Our work in English this term is going to be based around our learning journey and will link to the children and their lives or families and wishes. The key skills we will be focusing on will be writing using full stops, capital letters and finger spaces, as well as presenting work neatly in a lined English book for the very first time. By the end of the term, your child would have written about who is in their family and what they want to be when they grow up.

In Mathematics, we will be focusing on number and place value to ensure that all children have a good understanding of numbers to ten so we can build skills on this for the rest of the year.
