Our Curriculum

Following extensive research and stakeholder engagement a new curriculum was launched at Hoo in September 2019

The intent of this new curriculum is outlined below and in the links to the right, however if you would like further details on our curriculum or how it is being implemented, then please do contact the school where we will be delighted to speak about the exciting changes we have made in more detail. You can also follow the links on the right of this page to see more detailed information relating to the mathematics and English curriculums. Also on this page is a link to the “Hoo Layers of Learning “document, which shows the structure of our curriculum.

At Hoo St Werburgh Primary School our curriculum aims to create:

  • A passion amongst our children for life-long learning
  • Learning which is fully inclusive and accessible for all
  • Learning which is relevant to our learners’ world and community
  • Children who aspire to be the best they can be at everything they do
  • These four aims, combined with our long-standing school values of courage, confidence, respect and belonging sit at the very core of our curriculum and ensure that our learning has a clear intent and purpose for the children in our school.

A fundamental part of the curriculum here at Hoo is helping children become more effective learners. It is our aim to equip children not only with the skills and knowledge to achieve at primary school but also the tools to become effective learners throughout their lives. This “learning toolkit” is created and developed using our character curriculum and aims to help children to ignite courage, encourage confidence, build respect and inspire a sense of belonging. Our teaching intent truly values the importance of a rigorous and stretching academic education combined with nurturing and fostering wider personal development leading to well-educated and rounded individuals ready for the next stage of their education.
