SATS / Assessment

Assessment of pupil progress within the Marlborough can take many forms and each individual child may have several elements of assessment forming a picture of their achievements.  We take the time to measure progress in this way so as not to limit reporting to purely academics when that may not be entirely appropriate.  For every child in the Marlborough we record assessment on progress against their weekly set targets in their individual learning plans (ILPs), bi-termly MPAC scores, Curriculum progress against personal targets termly as well as Sounds Write specific assessments.  There may also be assessments based on behaviour, communication, therapies undertaken or emotional/wellbeing measures if appropriate.

It is unusual for pupils within the Marlborough to be able to undertake the statutory assessments (SATs) at the end of Key Stages 1 and 2.  For any pupils showing particular strengths in Reading, Writing and Maths we will always look at individual pupils to assess whether participation in these assessments is possible and positive for the pupils concerned.  The end of Key Stage 1 phonics and times tables assessments are undertaken by as many pupils as are able and willing.  Where pupils require a little extra support and intervention to be eligible this is planned and delivered to all pupils identified.
